DispersiveSPE(dSPE),oftenreferredtoasthe"QuEChERS"method(Quick,Easy,Cheap,Effective,Rugged,andSafe),ismodernsamplepreptechniquethatisbecomingincreasinglypopularintheareaofmulti-residuepesticideanalysisinfoodandagriculturalproducts.
UsingtheQuEChERSmethod,food/agriculturalsamplesarefirstextractedwithanaqueousmiscIBLesolvent(e.g.,acetonitrile)inthepresenceofhighamountsofsalts(e.g.,sodiumchlorideandmagnesiumsulfate)and/orbufferingagents(e.g.citrate)toinduceliquidphaseseparationandstABIlizeacidandbaselabilepesticides,respectively.Uponshakingandcentrifugation,analiquotoftheorganicphaseissubjectedtofurthercleanupusingSPE.UnliketrADItionalmethodsusingSPEtubes,indispersiveSPE,cleanupisfacilitatedbymixingbulkamountsofSPE(e.g.,SupelcleanPSA,ENVI-Carb,and/orDiscoveryDSC-18)withtheextract.Aftersamplecleanup,themixtureiscentrifugedandtheresultingsupernatantcaneitherbeanalyzeddirectlyorcanbesubjectedtominorfurthertreatmentbeforeanalysis.
